Today the organisers of the Asian Tsunami Relief Concert presented a cheque for $25,687.35 to TEAR Fund New Zealand (represented by Richard Barter the Microenterprise Development Manager). The funds will assist in the reconstruction of communities impacted by the Boxing Day Tsunami.

Initiated by Kenneth Wang MP, nearly 20 Asian communities with different cultural and religious background joined in the united action. This was an unprecedented effort made by Asian New Zealanders.

The concert featured one of New Zealand's best pianist John Chen. It was held at 7:30pm on 22 January 2005 at the Holy Trinity Auckland Parnell Cathedral.

"Let our hearts go out to the people hit and let music convey our care to them", that is NZ Asians' biggest hope was the catch cry of the concert attended by over 800 people.

This fundraising effort was a remarkable achievement by the organisers in pulling together in a very short time frame such a large number of high quality performers from many ethnicities.

Working in a highly participatory manner, key community figures such as already mentioned Kenneth Wang, Simon Khan, Stella Li, Raj Mitra, Jane Zou, Christine Lee and Kai Luey put aside all agendas and cooperated in the significant organisational challenges associated with an event of this magnitude.

The resulting donation of $25,687.35 was an outstanding result, and will provide a significant part of the support TEAR Fund's partners will used to rebuild the shattered Tsunami hit communities.
